Curriculum and Grading Information

The goal of Physical Education at Moscow Middle School is to develop physically literate students who have the knowledge, skills, and confidence to enjoy a lifetime of healthful physical activity.

Curriculum

The MMS Curriculum is built upon the Idaho & National SHAPE America Physical Education Standards:
  • Standard 1: "Demonstrates competency in a variety of motor skills and movement patterns"
  • Standard 2: "Applies knowledge of concepts, principles, strategies and tactics related to movement and performance."
  • Standard 3: "Demonstrates the knowledge and skills to achieve and maintain a health-enhancing level of physical activity and fitness."
  • Standard 4: "Exhibits responsible personal and social behavior that respects self and others."
  • Standard 5: "Recognizes the value of physical activity for health, enjoyment, challenge, self-expression and/or social interaction."

Grading

MASTERY-BASED GRADING: STANDARDS BREAKDOWN
  • Respect & Responsibility: Students are to exhibit responsible personal and social behavior that respects self, others, facilities and equipment. (PE Standards 4 & 5)
  • Unit Participation: Students work to achieve learning objectives for each unit, improving their skills in a variety of activities.  (PE Standards 1 & 2)
  • Fitness Participation: Students work to achieve learning objectives in the year-long fitness progression, including participation in moderate to vigorous physical activity and using technology to self-monitor intensity levels that help improve fitness. (PE Standards 3)
  • Motor Skills Assessment: Students are to develop and demonstrate mastery of select motor skills, including Locomotor, Non-Locomotor, Manipulative and Combination Skills (PE Standards 1 & 2)
  • Content Knowledge: Students will demonstrate mastery of Health & Physical Education Academic Content. Students complete quizzes, reflections and other assignments based upon personal fitness, nutrition, goal setting and more!  (PE Standards 3 & 5)

CURRICULUM
  • All learning will take place within the areas of Fitness, Lifetime & Recreational Activities, Sports & Health Education.
  • Year-round fitness-based activities include Run-Walk-Jog Program, agility improvement activities, weight lifting, flexibility and circuit training. 
  • Others include: Flag Football, Rugby, Soccer, Tennis, Ultimate Frisbee, Yard Games, Frisbee Golf, Basketball, Volleyball, Dance, Lacrosse, Omnikin, Tchoukball, Pickleball, Track & Field, Softball, Kickball, Golf, Geocaching.
